| Description | |
| From the courageous first flights to the dawn of commercial air travel, Breitling’s history is inextricably linked to the history of aviation. In the 1930s, Breitling’s Huit Aviation Department made a name for itself by inventing precision cockpit clocks. Two decades later, it launched an even more novel flight instrument, only this time, it was designed to be worn on the wrist: the Ref. 765 AVI. This watch, a pioneer of pilot's watches, provides the technical underpinnings for today's Classic AVI. The Classic AVI is a collection inspired by the robust spirit of the era’s early aircraft. The Classic AVI Mosquito pays homage to such a legend. During a time of constant aluminum and steel shortages, the engineers involved in the development of the de Havilland Mosquito made use of a still plentiful material: wood. The "wooden wonder" shocked contemporaries by outperforming metal aircraft and became one of the fastest planes built between 1940 and 1950. Thanks to its superior maneuverability, it was able to perform missions in a variety of roles, including light bomber, night fighter, transport aircraft, and photo-reconnaissance aircraft. As a true pilot's watch, designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the cockpit at the time, the Classic AVI Mosquito features large, easily readable Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel. The 42 mm case's bezel is notched for optimal grip, even when the pilot is wearing gloves. The calfskin strap with stitching is a design derived from the seams on classic flight gear. An optional stainless steel bracelet offers an elegant alternative. The watch's readability, comfortable fit, and understated style will appeal to pilots and travelers alike. The Classic AVI is powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 23 movement, boasting a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. | |
