Breitling Navitimer B12 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaut RB12302A1L1P1 Automatic Men's Watch
Product Overview
The iconic Breitling pilot's chronograph – perfect for space travel. In the early 1960s, the Navitimer, equipped with a rotating slide rule for in-flight calculations, became a universally recognized pilot watch. However, during the era of the space race, another competition was quietly unfolding among watch manufacturers to develop the world's first astronaut watch. On May 24, 1962, when Scott Carpenter wore the Navitimer Cosmonaute aboard Mercury-Atlas 7, it officially became the first Swiss-made wristwatch chronograph to travel to space, showcasing Breitling's technical prowess once again. This watch was tailored to his personal requests, adding a 24-hour display dial to the iconic Navitimer to distinguish between day and night in orbit. After completing three orbits around the Earth, Mercury-Atlas 7 splashed down in the Atlantic, leaving its mark in aviation and horological history. The homage to the Cosmonaute is limited to 250 pieces, featuring a green dial and an 18K red gold case, modernly interpreting the original look. The main enhancement for this version is the automatic chronograph movement, Breitling Manufacture Caliber B12, designed for everyday life rather than space use. As an additional homage, the case back is engraved with the date of Carpenter's mission, the limited edition number of 250, and the phrase "First Swiss wristwatch in space."
