Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 LB0240211C1P1 Manual Winding 41mm Men's Watch
Product Overview
On May 24, 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times during NASA's Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. On his wrist was a unique Breitling Navitimer, specially designed for space. At Carpenter's request, this watch featured a wide bezel for easy operation while wearing gloves, a flexible metal bracelet suitable for wearing over a spacesuit, and, most importantly, a 24-hour display dial. This 24-hour display was essential for maintaining a sense of time in an orbit where the sun rises and sets every 90 minutes. Delivered just days before the launch, this custom model made history as the first Swiss-made wristwatch used in space. Now, in celebration of Scott Carpenter's 100th birthday, Breitling presents the "Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary." This model features a platinum case, paying homage to a great figure in space exploration. The deep blue dial represents the color of Earth as seen from space—vivid, rich, and unforgettable blue. The sharply contrasted white rotating slide rule evokes swirling clouds covering the Earth. The same shade of blue is carried over to the alligator leather strap, secured with a white gold folding clasp. The movement's bridge is engraved with special inscriptions honoring his achievements, such as "Carpenter," "Aurora 7," "3 orbits around the Earth," "Mercury 7," and "Scott Carpenter Centenary 1925–2025." The case back is also engraved with "First Swiss wristwatch in space" and "One of 50." It comes housed in a wooden display box marked with the mission date from 1962, along with a replica of the name badge worn by Carpenter during Mercury 7. This timepiece, connecting Earth and orbit, is made for those who dare to challenge, both then and now.
