Two years later, this design was announced as the official timepiece of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Thus, the "Navitimer" was born. AOPA is (still) the world's largest pilot club, with nearly every aviator in the United States as a member. During the heyday of civil aviation, the Navitimer became the de facto pilot watch, beloved by airline captains and aviation enthusiasts alike. In 1962, it was worn on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter, making its way into space. And it wasn't just pilots who were drawn to the irresistible beauty of this watch.
