In the 1930s, Breitling's Huit Aviation department made a name for itself by inventing precision cockpit clocks. Two decades later, it released an even more innovative flight instrument in wearable form: the Ref. 765 AVI. This pioneering pilot's watch forms the technical basis for today's Classic AVI. The Classic AVI is a collection inspired by the robust spirit of early aircraft. The Classic AVI P-51 Mustang pays homage to this legend. The aircraft was manufactured in just 120 days, but even its developer, North American Aviation, did not foresee the driving force behind this fighter. The P-51's laminar flow wing and engine cooling system were considered experimental when the single-seat fighter first took off in 1940, but they achieved unprecedented speed and range. The installation of the Merlin engine enhanced the aircraft's performance to high altitudes, making it the best all-around fighter of its time. As a true pilot's watch, designed to withstand the rigors of the cockpit, the Classic AVI P-51 Mustang features large, legible Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel.
