For divers, timing is everything. Breitling aimed for an easy-to-read diver's watch that eliminated everything but the functions necessary for saving lives underwater. This watch, pared down to the essentials, was named the Slow Motion. Its clean lines, thick luminescent indexes, square hands, and contrasting dial ring maximized visibility. It could be said to be practical. Nevertheless, it was extremely loved for its appearance. The new Superocean follows the design codes of the popular Slow Motion while adding modern features such as a ceramic-inlay bezel and brightly colored dials. The wide hands and indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova® luminescent material for easy reading even underwater. The watch is water-resistant to 300m and is also resistant to shocks, sand, and salt water. The bronze version uses a special alloy that is highly resistant to corrosion but develops a subtle patina over time, giving the watch a unique character. Straps are available in rubber or metal bracelet. Both feature a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15mm, making them easy to wear over a rash guard or wetsuit. The scratch-resistant ceramic-inlay bezel is resistant to wear and fading. For safety, the bezel is unidirectional on most sizes, and a patented locking bidirectional bezel on the 46mm size.
